Venetian and Murano glass artisans have been influencing bead makers since the mid fourteenth century! Glass beads handcrafted in Venice and on the Island of Murano are among the most recgonized in the world and highly valued in jewelry. There is just no substitute that presents the sparkle and dazzle of the Venitian and Murano glass bead. I love to work with the captivating Sommerso Beads and Foil beads in my jewelry designs.

The Foil and Sommerso bead contains 24kt gold, white gold, or .925 sterling silver leaf in its middle. Sommerso, meaning submerged colors within layers of glass, begins with a small piece of glass wound around copper wire. Next the gold or silver leaf is applied to the hot glass and completely enrobed with another layer of transparent glass. The bead is shaped and the layers of glass and gold or silver produces a beautifully striking bead. Refined and warm or bright and crisp they add richness to fine jewelry.
